Hello, petit créateurs de mode! I’m Jessica Forcier, a hardworking student by day and a fierce designer by night. I love to make sketches, sew, draw random portraits from Pinterest, listen to music, and be surrounded by loved ones. I’ve been learning to sew since I was ten and I remember being so excited when I received my own sewing machine that I burned my hand on the iron creating my first skirt. Since then I have created many ideas from an apron to dresses for my school dances, and building outfits for our local charity Fashion Show. The show started 5 years ago with the fourth on coming up on February 17th, and I have collaborated with my stepmom to create a 10 or so piece line for a Fashion Show, which raises money for the Franklin County Animal Shelter and one other chosen charity. When I am not sewing I love listening to music while I practice my drawing skills. Another important thing I do in my free time is spending time with my friends, typically consumed by a good board game or a romantic film. I’ve worked hard to design a blog that will provide you with advice, tips, and other fashion criteria necessary for you rock any runway. I may be young, but I’ve learned a great deal on parts of the history of fashion among different cultures, and have experienced the details incorporated in the design process. I hope you’ll join me on my adventure through the levels of the Fashion industry!
I’m sure we’ve all been frustrated when you find an article of clothing you really like but it never seems to look as good on you as it does on the model? Well, this my friends is where knowing your body can play a major role. Everyone’s body is made differently but can be composed into 4 basic shapes, which will guide you to the best silhouette for you!
Pear: This body type typically means that you have a narrow shoulder but much wider hips, and this what I have. It is almost an hourglass, and with this body type comes the advantage of a defined waist. With this figure, you want shirts or dresses that will accentuate your natural waist.
Shirt: Looser fitting shirts with a boat neckline give the illusion of a wider upper half to balance out your hips
Pants: flared pants help to balance your wide hips, Skinny jeans are good as long as there is more going on up top
Dress: Fit & flare, to enhance your small waist, Off the shoulder helps bring attention to your bust and draws a line across your shoulder which balances your bottom half by making your shoulders look wider
Hourglass: With this body type you have equal hips and shoulder span, or wide bust and hips with a defined waist. You can choose to accentuate different areas and look flattering most anything. Some of the best silhouettes to show off those curves are,
Shirt: belted jacket, Cropped top, flatter small waist
Pants: Wide leg pants, Pencil skirt
Dress: Wrap dress
Inverted Triangle: If you have this body type, then you have the opposite effect of the pear shape, you have broad shoulders and smaller hips. With this body type, the goal is to use clothes the narrow your shoulder width.
Shirt: Long sleeves to draw attention away from shoulders, Vertical stripes, elongating your figure
Pants: Flowy pants
Dress: Racer-back dresses
Rectangle: If you’ve got a rectangle body type then you’ve got the athletic look going on. In this body type, the width of your hips, waist, and bust are very close together and could probably draw a straight from top to bottom. The advantage of this “modelest” body type, if you fit into most any clothes without having to get items alternate to your curves.
Shirt: Any type of shirt work well on this body
Pants: Straight jeans
Dress: Monochromatic dresses, give the illusion of a different figure, Asymmetrical skirt
Dress codes these days have expanded, but when comparing the male and female standard in the school setting you can clearly see differences among their privileges. Today, it seems like the dress code revolves around the inability of the professionalism in men. At school, guys can wear sleeveless tanks, but a girl wants to have the same comfort of this cooling shirt the straps must be of a certain width. For showing a female shoulder is not appropriate for an educational environment. Girls clothing should not be censored because adults are incapable of treating men how to respect women. Leggings are not allowed because they claim the skin tight fabric will cause girls to be called names for being so scandalous, which basically states that they don’t know how to control boys so the girls have to service the consequence. Now, this doesn’t only show in an educational environment but in everyday life. Women are afraid to wear certain clothing out at night because they will be objectified or they are afraid they will be hurt if they’re outfit shows just a little too much skin. The standards of women’s clothing should not reflect the behavior of men but reflect the confidence of the women to believe that she is beautiful.

Wanna stay warm without the bulk, well tights will become your new best friend. The first step is to practice layering pieces that compliment each other, and avoid using large bulky clothing so you can keep your figure. Tights come to a great advantage when layering because you can wear them under may types of bottoms as they are tight enough that they won’t cause bumps in your pants. Along with this, the pants will cover the tights so people will just think you are wearing higher socks. Another good clothing item for the winter is a long sleeve turtleneck, you can use this to wear under a sweater as another compression layer. You can also wear a turtleneck under a summer dress you like to transition it to a very 90s vibe look, perfect for winter. Another technique is when wearing a jacket over top of an outfit, to add warmth, you should wear a cropped jacket or long trench coat style to help keep your figure. If you wear a jacket that stops are the hip level your figure will appear very boxy. Alrighty, I think with these tips you’ll be ready to march through the storm, while still looking good.
